The primary dimensions in this Guide are taken from the 2010 ADA Standards. However, because the 2017 ICC Standards will frequently be the accessibility standard that is incorporated into or referred to by local/state building codes, the 2017 ICC Standard's dimensions are also shown where they deviate or where complying with the 2010 ADA. The ADA Standards for Accessible Designs say what is required for a building or facility to be physically accessible to people with disabilities.
Ada Bathroom Floor Plan Dimensions – Flooring Guide by Cinvex
The National Kitchen & Bath Association developed Bathroom Planning Guidelines with Access Standards to provide designers with good planning practices that consider the needs of a range of users. In addition, many projects must also follow the provisions of the 2009 revision of ANSI Standard ICC A117.1, Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. This course will identify the benefits of accessibility standards and the prescriptive requirements for accessible restrooms set by the ADA.
We will review requirements for lavatories, accessories, toilet compartments and bathing. The standards do not specify the minimum size of toilet rooms. The required size of a toilet room is determined by room layout, the number and configuration of fixtures provided, required clearances, the presence of baby changing tables and other amenities, turning space, door maneuvering clearances, and other factors and requirements.

ICC A117.1 includes an Exception allowing recessed units behind grab bars with less than 1-1⁄2" absolute grab bar wall clearance as an alternative to the 2010 ADA requirement.
This comprehensive ADA bathroom guide covers essential dimensions, fixture placements, and design strategies to create safe, accessible restrooms for all users.
